Have you ever made a recipe that was a hit right off the bat? One that made all the dogs in the neighborhood line up at your door for handouts? Well, this is the one! It may look unassuming when you look at the very simple and short list of ingredients, but don’t let those fool you!

The best cookie I’ve had in years. Thank you! – Davis, picky 7-year old Australian Shepherd

I’ve never been one to have extra time to cook snacks for my dogs, but then I discovered this chicken treat recipe, which was handed down to me from a family friend. It looked really basic, I almost always had all the ingredients on hand, which was convenient, and it was super easy to make! All positives in my book!

To be honest, when I first saw this recipe, I thought there was no way my dogs would be interested. It looked so bland, too basic. But that’s the beauty of this particular chicken dog treat recipe. The simplicity! So many other recipes I’ve seen have either too many ingredients, or a lot of things that dogs would either be sensitive to or not like.

With this recipe, you can keep it simple, as is, or even get creative and add leftovers or other ingredients you have, that you know your dog likes, like bits of leftover chicken, grated carrots…get imaginative!

And now let’s talk about the shape. Let’s be real, your dog really doesn’t care if it’s shaped like a cute little bone or not, does he? But if it makes you happy, and you like to make shapes, go for it! Just don’t feel that’s a necessary step. If you’re short on time, good old round cookie shapes work just as well, and Fido will still love them, and you, just as much!

Homemade Chicken Dog Treats Recipe

Ingredients:

  • 1 ¼ Cups Rice Flour

  • 3 Tbsp. Vegetable Oil

  • ½ tsp. Salt

  • 1/3 Cup Chicken Broth (homemade, organic without salt, or even the leftover juice when you cook chicken – yum!)

Instructions:

  1. Preheat oven to 165 °C (325˚F).

  2. Mix all ingredients in a bowl. The dough should be the consistency of Play-Doh, so you may need to add another 1-2 tablespoons of liquid to get the right consistency.

  3. Knead the dough until smooth, roll out on a lightly floured surface to ¼ inch thick.

  4. Cut out shapes with a cookie cutter or make rectangles with a knife or pizza wheel.

  5. Place on a cookie sheet and bake at 325˚ for 15–20 minutes until just slightly browned on the bottoms.

  6. Let cool and store in an airtight container.

And that’s it! So simple, so easy, so yummy for your puppy! Go ahead, try it out and let me know how your pup likes it by sharing an image of him eating them and tagging me in your post! Enjoy!
