Let’s Talk Sniffs and Snouts: Keeping Your Canine Comfy

by | May 4, 2024 | Alternative Health Care

Ever sprayed a new air freshener and noticed Fido seems a bit off? Your pup’s super sniffer picks up way more than ours do. That’s right, your dog’s nose is like a superhero’s power! But with that power, they sniff out every scent in our homes, including the ones they’re not too keen on.

A Superpower, Really!

Before we chat about why our doggo might not love the smells we do, let’s marvel at just how super their noses are. A dog’s sense of smell is so much stronger than ours. Imagine smelling your favorite food from miles away – that’s what it’s like for them! So when we spray that strong air freshener or light a scented candle, it’s like a supercharged scent party for them.

When Home Smells Too Strong

Okay, let’s chat about our beloved cleaning sprays, air fresheners, candles, and all things that make our homes smell like a field of flowers or a fresh ocean breeze. They smell great to us, right? But some of these things have stuff in them called volatile organic compounds (VOCs) that can be a bit tough for our dogs. It’s like getting a big, unwanted whiff of strong perfume – not fun! Over time, these strong scents could even make them feel ill or uncomfortable.

What Our Dogs Might Be Saying

There’s this cool thing called animal communication, where folks (like me!) can talk with our dogs in a special way. Although some people might think it’s a bit out there, these sessions tell us that many of our four-legged pals would love us to get rid of these strong smells. Just like we want our homes comfy and cozy, so do they!

Going Natural: It’s Easier Than You Think!

Hey, we all love a nice smelling home, and that’s totally okay! There’s good news – we can have our fresh-smelling homes and keep our dogs super happy. Let’s think about switching to more natural stuff.

Ever thought about unscented laundry detergent, or those labeled as safe for dogs? How about replacing air fresheners with some essential oils (just make sure they’re dog-friendly, too!)? There are lots of natural cleaning supplies out there that use things like vinegar and baking soda. Even with candles, we can choose beeswax or soy ones with natural wicks. And they smell great!

Happy Home, Happy Dog

We love our doggos, and making our homes comfortable for them is just another way of showing our love. A few small changes can mean a world of difference to them. They might not be able to say it, but they’ll sure show it with their wagging tails! So, let’s think about toning down the strong smells and creating a comfy, happy, and healthier home for our whole family – dogs included!
